MCGOWAN GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO DELIVER FOR WEST SWAN IN 2022/23 STATE BUDGET

West Swan residents stand to benefit greatly from the 2022-23 State Budget announced by Premier and Treasurer Mark McGowan today.

The McGowan Labor Government’s budget, announced today, delivers cost of living relief to households across WA, and a record infrastructure spend across West Swan.

West Swan households stand to benefit from a one-off $400 credit on their residential electricity bill, providing the average household with months of bill relief and helping local families to manage the costs of living.

The McGowan Government is building the road and rail infrastructure that we need for tomorrow in a financially responsible manner, and through the 2022-23 Budget they are continuing to deliver major infrastructure for the community of West Swan.

Construction on the $1 billion much-anticipated METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Rail Line continues, with major works occurring on the 21km rail corridor and at the five stations.

Once complete, passengers traveling from Ellenbrook Station will have a 30-minute journey to the CBD with no need to transfer trains, with fees capped for train and journeys at the cost of a 2-zone ticket.

New infrastructure projects for the area include the new Tonkin Highway North Ellenbrook interchange, with $100 million committed to the project.

In this Budget, we are announcing new funding of $36.2 million for Brabham Primary School to deliver education support facilities, an additional general learning classroom building and an offsite early childhood facility.

Other new projects include the expansion of programs like the Target 120 program into Ellenbrook to help deal with juvenile offending.

Meanwhile work continues to deliver and plan for projects previously announced including:

  • $400m to deliver Reid Highway grade separations at Altone Road, Daviot Road/Drumpellier Drive and West Swan Road
  • $2.5m to upgrade the intersection of Beechboro Road North and Marshall Road
  • $100,000 for bus shelters in Aveley
  • $24.36m for the new West Swan (Dayton) Primary School
  • $26.35 million for Henley Brook Primary School
  • $2.5m for permanent classrooms at Ballajura Primary School
  • $2m for primary and pre-primary facility upgrades at Illawarra Primary School
  • $1 million for a STEM classroom upgrade at Ballajura Community College

Comments attributed to Member for West Swan, Hon Rita Saffioti MLA:

“I am proud of this year’s Budget.

“We’re delivering on our election commitments in West Swan and across Western Australia.

“Infrastructure upgrades are such an important part of our community, we already have in the pipeline numerous projects which will improve amenity across West Swan, improve road safety, bust congestion, and support local WA jobs.

“Our METRONET Morley to Ellenbrook Rail Line is a signature project for the McGowan Government that will serve the entire community and improve connectivity across the West Swan electorate in addition to saving time and money for residents by capping fares to a 2-zone fare price.

“We will continue to invest heavily in schools in the community, and this budget sees major improvements to local schools”.
